  6. *** Standard Installation ***
  7.  
  8. Follow this easy one-time installation procedure:
  9.  
  10. 1) Create a directory to hold the Diskers related files.  The
  11. recommended directory name (used in the following instructions) is
  12. "C:\DISKERS".
  13.  
  14. 2) Copy all Diskers-related files to this directory.  At a minimum
  15. you need the following files:  
  16. DISKERS.EXE
  17. DISKERS.HLP
  18. DISKERS.WAV
  19.  
  20. 3) Note:  You will also need a copy of VBRUN300.DLL.  This file is
  21. available within many CompuServe forums. To obtain this file from
  22. CompuServe, GO WINUTIL and search for the file VBRUN3.ZIP.
  23.  
  24. 4) You may optionally copy the following files to C:\DISKERS:
  25.    
  26.    MUSCLE.VBX
  27.    
  28.  
  29. Note:  It is possible that you may have existing copies of these files
  30. within your WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory or within other directories
  31. on your system.  These files are used by many different applications both
  32. from shareware and commercial companies.  The proper location for these
  33. files is within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  Caution, before you copy
  34. these files to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, you should use the Windows
  35. File Manager to see if copies of these files already exist.  
  36.  
  37. If these files are not present within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, you
  38. may simply copy them into it and proceed to step 5. 
  39.  
  40. If versions of any of the files are already on your computer, you should
  41. use the Windows File Manager to look at each file's date & time to determine
  42. if the existing version is newer than the files included within the 
  43. DISKERS.ZIP file.  If your existing files are newer, Diskers should
  44. work just fine with them and you can proceed to step 5.
  45.  
  46. If Diskers files are newer, you should move your original files
  47. to a temporary directory in case you encounter problems with other
  48. software and need to get them back.  
  49.  
  50. Once you have moved the older files to a temporary location, you may
  51. copy the Diskers supplied versions to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  52. Note:  Once Diskers is installed and running, you can use it's ability
  53. to peek inside files and view the file's version information.  This will 
  54. generally confirm which one is the older version.
  55.  
  56. 4) Use the Windows Program Manager to place Diskers within an
  57. existing program group or create a new group and then add the program
  58. to it.  Refer to your Windows' documentation on adding new programs
  59. and groups.  
  60.  
  61. NOTE: Fineware is aware that the install process is complicated and we
  62. would like to help.  In general, shareware downloads need to be as small
  63. as possible to reduce connect time charges.  If you are not comfortable
  64. with the installation process described above, you may contact us and
  65. for a small postage and handling charge ($2), we will send you a complete
  66. setup and installation package.  This will still be the unregistered
  67. version of Diskers but it will contain everything you need to
  68. properly and easily install the program.

  70. That's all there is to installing Diskers.  When Diskers is
  71. activated for the first time, a few one-time only dialog boxes and
  72. messages are displayed.
  73.  
  74. Remember that while Diskers is active, online help is always
  75. available by pressing the F1 key.
  76.  
  77. Common installation problems:  
  78.  
  79. Many of today's applications include components from other 3rd party
  80. distributors.  These components are like snap-together parts.
  81. When an application is initially designed, the programmer
  82. is probably using the latest version of all of the components his
  83. application needs.  Over time, these components may be enhanced to
  84. include new features and capabilities.  A frequent problem occurs when
  85. a newer application makes use of features that were not available
  86. in earlier version of the software.  This can cause problems when
  87. multiple versions of these components exist on your computer. 
  88. Please refer to the following list of files and eliminate older
  89. version if possible.

  94. Other Common Problems:
  95.

  97. SYMPTOM:  A GPFault occurs when you launch the program.  Normally, this
  98. will be the result of a conflict with some aspect of Diskers and
  99. your video card.  The module that reports the fault will have a file
  100. extension of .DRV and most likely, you will be using a driver with more
  101. than 256 colors.
  102. CURE:  Make sure that you are using the latest driver.  Contact your video 
  103. card manufacturer.  If this does not fix it, try adjusting the number of
  104. colors used up or down as well as adjusting the resolution. If this still
  105. does not correct the problem, use the standard VGA drivers which ship
  106. with Windows.
